The 5 mukhi Rudraksha malas of 108+1 beads available in the market contain about 25% beads which float in water. They are porous, and hence powerless, and should be discarded. Of the rest, normally about 80% are 5 Mukhis and the balance are 4 and 6 Mukhis, which should be removed. Defective ones with cuts and holes should be removed. Hence to make a fully tested 5 mukhi mala you really need 2 malas from the market.
The premium quality small beads have to be mixed with the other beads, otherwise the mala is too small for wearing over the head.
