The Chennakesava Temple is a Vishnu temple on the banks of River Kaveri at Somanathapura, Mysuru, Karnataka.The temple was consecrated in 1258 CE by Somanatha Dandanayaka, a general of the Hoysala King Narasimha III. It is located 38 kilometres from Mysuru .
The ornate temple is a fantastic model illustration of the Hoysala architecture. The entire temple, both inside and outside is full of beautiful carvings. The intricate rock carvings are really great.The temple was destroyed during Muslim attacks in the Hoysala kingdoms. Some parts of the temples were restored by Vijayanagara Kings and later by Wodeyars of Mysuru.
