Introduction
The Shad Vargas or the divisional charts is a book which is a compilation of the Varga charts related principles given in the great ancient Vedic astrology scriptures.
Great importance has been given to divisional charts by every scholar of Vedic Jyotish since the times of Maharshi Parashara. Apart from Rashi Chart – Hora, Drekkana, Saptamansha, Navamsha, Dwadashamsha and Trimshamsha are known as Shadvargas or six divisional charts.
In fact Shadvargas are the fine instruments to judge the complete aspect of each planet. To overlook shadvargas while interpreting a chart is a big blunder.
These divisional charts help us in precise analysis about the job, finance, assertions, parents, siblings, marital relationships and progeny of any person.
- If a planet is unafflicted in all the harmonic charts, it gives very good results in its major or sub or sub-sub periods.
- If a planet is vargottama which means that it occupies the same sign innavamsha, then it gives results like an exalted planet.
- If a planet becomes afflicted, debilitated or occupies the sign of a enemy in divisional charts then it may give bad results during its dasha.
- If a planet occupies its own navamsha or a friend’s navamsha, it gives benefic results during its dasha.
- If a planet occupies the navamsha of an enemy, it may give unfavourable results during its dasha.
- If a planet is debilitated in the basic natal chart but gets exalted in the divisional charts then it would not give bad results in its dasha.
- If a planet occupies the same sign in all the divisional charts then its benefic results would prevail upon all the malefic influences in a horoscope.
- Interpretation on the basis of divisional charts is the same for a male or a female. Only the interpretation of Trimshamsha is different for women.
In fact knowledge of divisional charts is the most important tool of predictive astrology.
Which are Shadvargas or Six Divisional Charts
The natal chart, hora, drekkana, navamsha, dwadashamsha and trimshamsha – these six are known as shadvarga or six divisional charts. If we include saptamsha also this will be known as saptavarga or seven divisional charts. But since natal chart is the main chart and not a divisional chart – all these divisional charts are known as shadvarga or six divisional charts.
Comments :
It is very important to mention here that Varahmihira, the great sage and astrologer did not include the saptamsha in shadvargas. In his group of shadvargas he included natal chart, hora, drekkana, navamsha, dwadashamsha and trimshamsha only. Sage Parashara gave equal importance to saptamsha along with the other divisions.
Hora is known as D-2, Drekkana as D-3, Navamsha as D-9, Dwadashamsha as D-12, Trimshamsha as D-30. and Saptamsha as D-7 also.
The order of analysing the Saptamsha in the last may appear awkward to the readers but here, the tradition followed in most of the classical texts of Vedic Jyotish has been maintained.
